Josef Rakich is a young motivational bodybuilder and personal trainer from New Zealand. Josef is an all-natural bodybuilder focused on aesthetics and nutrition blessed with a strong work ethic, dedication to training and a healthy lifestyle.


Josef Rakich is the founder of a highly successful online personal training business, Josef Rakich Fitness. His goal in life is to help as many people as possible transform their physique and change their life for the better.

Q&A

What got started in the fitness industry/bodybuilding?


I first started off in the gym back in 2008 when my Mum won a free 2 week gym trial but did not want it so she gave it to me. I went along to the gym after school with a few mates and we started mucking around. As time went by I started to notice some progress so I got more serious about my training and my nutrition. This is when the results came in hard and fast. Something that started off to me as a hobby has now turned into my passion. The gym and fitness lifestyle is now something I live and breathe for and I could not think of a better way to live my life!


Where does your motivation come from?


My motivation comes from a lot of areas. Just seeing results and progress is a big part of motivation for me. It’s like the more results I see, the more motivated I become. My motivation also comes from other people who I look up to and also from random people I don’t know who compliment me on my physique. There are many things that all feed my motivation to keep training hard every day!


What does your typical weekly workout plan look like?


I train 6 days per week. I like to change my workout split up every 4 weeks to stop myself from plateauing. I always mix things up, new exercises, different amounts of volume, different rep ranges, etc.. I always like to change things up. Change is good and what you want! I always aim to hit each main muscle group once per week with smaller muscle groups such as abs and calves twice per week.


What is your favorite body part to train?


My favorite body part to train always changes, but right now I would have to say I am loving back! Getting some insane lat pumps at the moment and feels wicked as!


What is your favorite EHPlabs product and why?


I love the Beyond BCAA’s. Every morning I fill up a 2L bottle of water and add 2 scoops of BCAA and some Acetyl L-Carnitine and drink that throughout the day. Around lunch it’s all gone, so I re-fill and add another 2 scoops. It’s good and helps keep me anabolic throughout the day with constant BCAA supply to the muscles.


What are your thoughts on cardio? Do you prefer HIT or LISS?


Cardio is not needed to get in top condition, the most important thing is being in a calorie deficit. However, cardio is the best tool available for burning calories so it just makes the job a lot easier. In terms of fat loss HIIT cardio is superior. However, I normally do LISS cardio or MISS if I do perform cardio as HIIT is very hard and taxing on the CNS (Central Nervous System) and lifting weights is somewhat HIIT anyway, so when I perform cardio I like to keep it LISS or MISS and keep my HIIT for the weights. But this doesn’t mean I neglect HIIT all together. I still do it from time to time. I always make sure I take my OxyShred before doing cardio as it helps melt the fat away.


If you could choose to have a superpower, what would you choose?


Super intelligence, just like in the movie LUCY.


What 3 items from your gym bag would you take with you on a deserted island?


Beyond BCAA’s of course! iPhone and headphones!


What superhero best describes you?


Superman.


What advice would you pass onto anyone that was looking to start their fitness journey and use supplements?


Always give 100%! Train hard, follow a good diet and only use the best supplements to get the best results for your goals!


In a typical week, what’s your diet like?


My diet changes all the time depending on my goals at the time and what I am trying to achieve.


At the moment I am cutting so my current diet consists of 240g protein, 220g carbs and 65g of fat. I follow these macronutrients and stick to my diet perfectly every day. I include re-feed days in weekly to keep leptin from dropping so I can continue to burn fat at an optimal rate.


Consistency is the key when it comes to results. You just need to stick to it and the results will come.
